It was good to see my alma mater recognized (Fortune names NetApp best place to work). And all Googlers are probably feeling a little better about the world. While the repricing of options has always raised eyebrows, especially for anyone who's never endured the angry frustration of watching your biggest incentive get hosed, so to speak, it was fitting and proper for the incredibly well-heeled brass at the company to re-incentivize the troops. Letting people know how valuable they are, and that you give a damn about keeping them, is literally coin of the realm in Silicon Valley. NetApp's and Google's reputations as great places to work weren't created by accident. Way more often than not, for many years, they've done right by their troops. Why more companies don't pay heed remains one of those many things I've never understood.
