Consume "citizen journalism" at your own risk. At least, don't trade on it.
The "brand" known as citizen journalism, an oxymoron propped up by ratings-grubbing TV news stations, took an ugly but well-deserved hit today with the rumor of Steve Jobs' "heart attack".  Read about it here.   Bottom line: a flake with a laptop is to a professional journalist what some guy with a golf club is to a PGA member.  Media outlets who insist on catering to camera-phone jockeys and jumping on the "dispatches" of the Billy Bloggers of this world only serve to pump air into their (the "citizen journalists'") toy balloons.    Maybe the operative metaphor is toilet paper with which they then proceed to festoon the neighborhood trees.
