Timing of the Emmy nominations (read: this week) could not have been drawn up any better for the second season of Mad Men (read: next week-and-a-half).  The build-up is comparable to the way Apple products are pumped.  And purchased.  But it’s OK because both represent kick-ass products whose creators spared no agony to deliver.  "Mad Men" is a diabolically intelligent series and its Emmy-credentials reconfirm cable TV as a primal force in entertainment. The series clearly draws an audience way beyond those of us in the marketing/advertising world.  The quality and cachet of Mad Men buffs up the AMC brand, too.  Suggestion: TiVo each episode, or watch each as it becomes available (On Demand, etc.).  Uninterrupted, each “chapter” is akin to a short film.  If anything’s ever been Emmy-worthy, it’s Mad Men.  AMC deserves whatever brand props it attains for helping to make it happen.
