The public launch of Knol, an online encyclopedia to compete against Wikipedia, may not destroy the latter but it sure as hell furthers the omnipresence and ubiquity of the Google brand.  Google long ago reached the “Kleenex” and “Xerox” summit of brand awareness-cum-generic reference.  Now it’s poised to elbow aside the closest thing on the Net to a generic term for online-encyclopedia, namely Wikipedia.  On further thought, you have to wonder what took them so long.  They’re in the “knowledge” biz, right? Knowledge is power.  Which is something Google has in peta-tons.  Scary?
