
Hulu, from NBC/News Corp. is the latest in a continuing series of "killer" products. You know, the latest hyped entry to any market where there's already a gorilla gets crowned the (name the so-called victim)-killer. Well, this new video-on-demand/video sharing site is supposed to kill YouTube. Hmm. The same NBC whose MSNBC gets rating-mugged every night by Fox News? Yes, those bozos. The site will feature shows and movies from NBC (and Fox
) as well as user-generated content. Hulu is still in private Beta phase and only accessible by invite. But people like TechCrunch are drooling all over it. All that this suggests to me is that the 30-second TV commercial may not be dead yet, but it's on a respirator.
I suspect that YouTube will survive and prosper. Not so sure about another new entrant in the user-generated content "auction" business, however, San Francisco-based Zipidee.
