Strange aroma in Stillwater: Oklahoma State's coach doth protest too much?
This thing's been all over the Internet and it's representative of the bizarre Kabuki Theatre of the relationship between big-time college football, and its chroniclers. Namely, the sports media.  Background: Oklahoma State demoted its QB and the Daily Oklahoman ran a story speculating as to why.  But head coach Mike Gundy threw a controlled and semi-choreographed fit at a post-game press conference in which he took vigorous issue with the story's tone and angle, yet refused to specify exactly what was factually inaccurate.  His public diatribe, in which he compared a 21-year-old, elite athlete to a child with hurt feelings was odd to say the least.  There are some 21-year-olds who are dodging I.E.D.'s in Iraq everyday, as opposed to linebackers in football stadiums once a week. Hurt feelings?  That's relative.   The various media are only too aware that their "brands" are on the line everyday.  They promise an experience for their readers, in print and online.  The promise: accurate information that's provocative and compelling.  Gundy knows something he's not revealing, and it's harming his own "brand" at the moment.   Stay tuned.
