Nike walks in moccasins of the marketplace
So Nike ((NYSE: NKE) just launched its Nike Air Native N7, a new shoe meant specifically to fit the feet of Native Americans (a.k.a. “American Indians”).  Shoe designers and researchers reportedly looked at the feet of more than 200 people from more than 70 tribes nationwide and found that Indians have a much wider and “taller” foot than the average shoe accommodates. The average shoe width of men and women measured was three width sizes larger than the standard Nike shoe!  As a result, the Air Native is wider with a larger “toe box”.  Don’t ask me what a toe box is. The shoe has fewer seams, meaning less irritation, and a thicker sock liner.  Profits will support Nike-sponsored "Let Me Play" programs on Native American lands.  Which is good.  And isn't it interesting how socially responsible Nike has become since the bad old days of sweatshop cobbleries in Asia? As for the shoe, and how it’ll sell to everyone off the reservation, I would suspect that Nike did its homework.  It is one of the pioneers (pun not intended) in the fine art and science of seeing its products through the eyes of the people to whom it sells.  It doesn’t look at its market through the lace-holes of its shoes.  Way to go, Phil.  Been to Asia lately?
