Devoted to branding and building and protecting brands

It's one of the things that make serious marketing people crazy.  I'm talking about the cheerleader camp that many companies insist that their marketing departments must run.  Isn't this the realm of human resources?  OK, if you insist on "marketing" the company to the company (read: disgruntled, burned-out, increasingly cynical employees) at least do it right.  Earlier this month, Biz Week broke it down. This trend is unfolding at places as varied as McDonalds's, Delta Airlines, Staples, Taco Bell and KFC.  Which reminds me of another truism: your most important "public", in PR, can be found right inside your own house.  BTW, that's not my wisdom.  It belongs to Lew Gerstner When he arrived at IBM years ago, he said, he realized that his primary customers were the people who worked for him -- at all ranks.  So he got busy and began selling them on what he believed the company needed to do.  Left HR and marketing out of it. The rest is history.
