Lee Gomes used to write for the San Jose Mercury before the demise of daily newspapers.  Now he writes for The Wall Street Journal during the demise.  Nonetheless, he continues to write as well as ever and his "Portal" column yesterday ("Apple''s 30 Years of Selling Cool Stuff With Uncool Message") was vintage. How ironic that his recollections of Apple (read: Steve Jobs) positioning itself as a force for moral superiority, in the tradition (gag!) of 1960s civil disobedience came just one day before the announcement that Macs would now run Windows.  Yes, like politics, business creates some really strange bedfellows.  Virtuous computers?  Give this old PR guy a freakin' break!  But, then, I was "old" when I was young at Apple.  Old enough to have marched in those anti-war demonstrations when Cupertino was known only for its cement quarry.  Then, a decade later, I shook my head at  the notion that the "resistance" and "higher consciousness" was all about whether you used/owned a Mac or a PC.  So  did Windows get religion or did Apple lose theirs?
