Nothing against Lou Dobbs' strident campaign for tougher immigration laws but don't tell me the front-office suits at CNN aren't pushing it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's a tad disingenuous for them to insist that this is just Lou being good ol' Lou, the tireless advocate whether he's reporting Enron malfeasance or getting in VIcente Fox's bigote. This is brand-building, folks. And when you're CNN and eating Bill O'Reilly's dust and gagging on Keith Olbermann's Blue State shtick, you send Dobbs out to capitalize on a news story that's hotter than a jalapeno. Lou's an advocate and proud, advocacy is what cable is all about, and the more strident it is, evidently, the better the ratings. This is not lost on the suits.
